Why the criticism regarding the RAM?  Would a next gen Amiga use anywhere near 1GB?

Who cares about the RAM, every computer has that.

The whole deal maker with the X1000 was "The Power of X!", and "X" is one thing it doesn't have. Without support for multiple cores, support for the add-on XMOS chip, and support for the "Xorro" slot, what's the point of this hardware?

It is a niche-niche-product for fans, not more not less.
Yet it's been touted as the "rebirth of the Amiga".
Face it, somebody got their expectations up, reality is about to set in.

That's what beta program is for, and they're already on rev 2.1 no? Yes, some people will point to Eyetech's boards as a bad example of such program. One potential bad example does not mean that everyone out there will also fail us. What is the established reputation of Varisys products?

Maybe Varisys has a great reputation, but this is an A-eon product and A-eon's reputation is at the very best unproven.

Somebody brought this up on moobunny already, but let's just put it out here - the X1000 is ostensibly "designed for OS4", right? So why pick a bunch of onboard components that you don't already have, or can't easily write, drivers for? Can't blame that on Varisys, and these boards have been around supposedly in the hands of OS4 dev for well over a year.

I'm looking forward to Amiwest this year!

So what you making of Amiwest this year then jorkany?

Did it meet with your expectations?

It sure did. No demo of SMP, Xena or Xorro - all of the things that make up "X". Throw in a distraction announcement of a new "mystery device coming soon" to cover for the complete disaster the X1000 has turned out to be. I wonder if Ben mentioned that announcement to Trevor in advance or if he just decided to backstab him with it at the show? Either way it seems to have worked pretty well, nobody gives a crap about the X1000 anymore.

I can't really see that any of the potential X1000 buyers would suddenly change their minds and go from "I want the fastest OS4 machine possbile, don't care if it's expensive" to "I think I'll get a netbook".
All the X1000 is now is "the fastest OS4 machine possible", there's no "X" which is what a lot of people wanted in addition to the speed. Never mind that the X1000 can't even use most of it's traditional onboard hardware, and it's even being openly touted as just a collector's item by Ben Hermans himself. So much for the "rebirth of the Amiga!"

@ Jorkany: How many people attended AmiWest?

Beats me, I was busy over the weekend and just got to reading the coverage about two hours ago. The pictures I've seen so far show about five people but even I'm willing to assume there were more than that. Maybe ssolie will be along shortly to tell us that thousands attended, just like last year! lol
