Mechy sells a nice SCSI card reader (CF, SD, Momory Stick, PCMCIA) that would look perfect in that free floppy slot.

About the only solution i can think of to replace tall drives is to glue some small plastic strips to the pcd-50b bezel to make up for the space.. not ideal but it works and looks ok when done right.

The machine works great other than the floppy.. she spins but does not access a disk.  So I took the machine apart to take the floppy drive out to replace it and noticed it was quite dusty in there, perhaps a good cleaning??  Or is this typical of older floppy drives?  In order to get the floppy drive out I had to take the accelerator card out.. (see attached pic).. I could not find any markings on this card..anyone recognize it?

I can't quite figure the AMIGA community out at times. I announced these card readers a good while back.Many of you have bought them and are using them now. It seems most make assumptions instead of reading the info or simply asking(save2600 did ask btw). Most seem afraid to email me for help and i am always just a email away either here or the store. I was slow getting info out,but for those who emailed me,we had their reader up and working on their amiga in 10 mins in most cases.SCSi isn't black magic,and these card readers are not voodoo,they do work. The biggest problem i see if people don't educate them on the basics of how scsi work,its very simple in most cases and a little knowledge goes along way.Some other cases they are using old badly implimented scsi controllers or old roms. This is not the fault of scsi,blame the maker of the card. What is worse i guess is the forums are filled with scsi MIS-Information. This gets repeated over the years.
Just so everyone knows, when you buy a card reader from me,i do stand behind it,and i will give person one on one help if you need it.

SO what up with my A2000 floppy drive.. HELLO. hijacked thread..hehe.  I could do away with the internal floppy put in a blank go with a SD card reader in the back + an external Floppy. .

I have a few collecting dust over here if you'd like a replacement. BUT... have you tried douching yours out real well first? Mixture of Summers Eve and contact cleaner usually sets 'em right.    :lol:   j/k

Okay, taking a cotton swap or tooth brush and cleaning out the grime is the first thing I'd do. Sometimes if they're real bad, I'll have a vacuum at the ready to suck all that crap up. Cans of air will just blow all the dust around and ends up in your eyes and everywhere else.

Next, see the two little black switches near the front left? Spray some contact cleaner into them and actuate manually a few times. Next, you can try cleaning the heads with a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol.

Someone here also wrote up a nice "how to" when it comes to removing the old grease from the rails that the head moves up and down on and then reapplies lithium, so that might be in order to.

Failing all that - hit me up for a working drive if you want! Mine are missing the front plastic bezel, so you'd have to make sure you keep yours...

Thank you.. .. yeah mine um had a few dust bunnies.. I will post a pic in a few.  She looks pretty clean now.. I hope this does the trick. I will find out tomorrow when I reinstall it into the 2000.  I will keep this situation updated.

Probably just old age.  Try cleaning it otherwise look for a replacement on eBay.

I have *NEVER* seen a drive look that bad. Umm... yeah, get some Summers Eve or Massengill on that puppy but quick!  :lol:

Holy crap!  A fur-lined floppy!

OK, there's only one way to clean this.  Take a small fluffy kitten, comb it vigorously with a nylon brush until balloons are drawn to it and then rub the kitten gently over the drive until the kitten is dustier than the drive.

Works like a charm.  

Nice..I'm sure my kitty will enjoy that..ha..
So this is a lesson for those who have not looked in to their older floppy drives..

Guilty! sorry about that!

Many times the grease hardens on the floppy stepper worm gears. you can take a toothpick and remove all the old grease and add a tiny amount(TINY!) of new lithium grease.

Cleanthe heads with isopropyl alcohol and blow the drive out well with air,cleaning the disk switches helps with contact cleaner too.

i have saved tons of so called "junk" drives that way.

Well cleaned out the dust... tried it out but no dice.  I didn't get in to it further as I have floppy drive from a 4000, which I cleaned at the same time I did the 2000 floppy, and she works just fine.  I will have to swap eject buttons as to color match the bezel and case .

The problematic 2000 floppy drive .. I never heard that "snick/click" sound when the drive is inserted.  
Oh dang.. I wanted to take a pic of the Splitfire board that is in das 2000...
