A4000T 060 needs help..
« on: February 18, 2007, 02:32:26 AM »
I just posted two pictures of my A4000T ..that needs a bit of help.
Im the orig. owner of everything in the picture..but here is the problem..
Does not display image through my CV64 card..I did some tests and
found I was missing 12v from the serial port...mmmm...Could I be
missing this 12v from the Zorro Bus as well??  I know the CV64 works,
I installed the drivers correctly..so its not a software issue..
She does work in straight NTSC mode..

Any ideas??

Thanks
Rich

Well..I did measure the PS..that is ok..I did reinstall all software..that is OK..
I get no output from Graphics card..I know that work as I tested in another
machine.
It seems I am missing 12v at the Serial connector..which..Im sure that 12v
goes other places as well..like the Zorro bus??

Yes I only get NTSC mode from the 4000T video module..not from the CV64

I know this is NOT a Workbench/CV64/ or a cybergraphics problem..

Perhaps I have some leaky or blown caps  somewhere on the mother board?

Yes these are new problems...I have had this card in this computer only..for a very long time ..ie..when the CV64 first came out ..thats when I bought it and
installed it..

All was fine then one day..I started to have this problem..

time to reseat/clean contacts/socket!

and check the presence of the 12V on the Zorro slots (look at the A4000 User Giude)

+12v = pin 10

Not sure which contacts / sockets you mean..I have pulled the VC64 card out and tried in all the zorro slots.and I did check the contacts..they are clean
as new..
However I will check the +12 on pin 10 for sure.  ..so..if for some reason..I dont have the +12v..then what..??
do I have a blown or leaking cap??

I know the PS is good..I tested it and I also just to double check used a new PS and still the same result..

I may have to do that..as it really is a HW issue vs a SW one...I for a fact Im missing +12v on the ext. serial connector..

Funny how it would go like that one day..it all works then nothing..

The Amiga Repair Center is a good place??  I mean I dont want to send my
MB..then not get it back..if you know what I mean..

Obviously if you don't have the 12v on the Zorro bus, the fault is more difficult to catch. (sorry but i don't know your skills about electronic repairs/restoring)

No worries..I got the skills..Im very comfortable working with circuit boards,  soldering etc.  and pretty handy with a multimeter..

I take it ..in chatting with everyone here..that this problem has not been seen or encountered before..or atleast by one who has read this post and the one I posted a while ago regarding this same problem.

I think I will see whats up with the 12V. on the Zorro bus..then next I will check the A/V module card , and I/O module card..for anything obvious..then will probably pop out the Mother Board..to do a close inspection of all chip and components..

Definitely. I trusted them enough to send my mobo there, so don't worry about how they will treat your mobo. Just make sure you use a reliable postal method.

Oh..what kinda turn-around ..weeks, months..etc..

Try the psu in your other box? Might be worth a shot even if multimeter tells you it outputs the proper voltages.

I might try that..however I did try a brand new PS..with the same results..

Does this happen with both your A4000Ts? Did you try the stuff from this thread?

That thead and this one pertain to the same 4000T..Im just now getting round to really get this thing fixed..Well upon taking it apart..I found a few interesting things ..with several items..First the
Ports Module seems to have a few issues..witht the Caps..green fuzz around the solder pad..to me does not seem normal..I will post pics..That makes sense as I had a 12V loss at the serial port.  MMMM..where can I get one of those..
Second the A/V module..same thing with some of the caps..which..I believe to
be related to the sound part of that board as I was able to use my Idek...Need to get one of those as well..
Third, and this is without taking the whole MoBo out.  After I took my CV64, and my Sunrize AD516 boards out..I fully inspected the Zorro slots..and notice two caps..that had the same green fuzz..maybe they are leaking or
just bad??  ...chances are there are more caps etc. that need attention that
I cannot see at this point.  :-(.
I well post macro pics of everything that I think is not "normal"..and post them.
So this Amiga repair center..do they have a good reputation??  Do they have a web site..How long do things usually take to fix..??

Well thats the latest..

Thanks everyone..
