Selling my Blizzard IV 030/50Mhz with 128MB SIMM
« on: May 24, 2008, 07:04:37 AM »
Well I finally decided to do it, am getting rid of my Blizzard. :-(

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300227557760&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=020

I was tinkering with my A1200 earlier and decided its just not worth keeping hold of it when 99% of the time my A1200 is gathering dust.  If I can get hold of a cheap RAM only card I will stick that in, as quite frankly that's all I am likely to need as I just want it for HD installing some games and I have bags of 4 and 8MB SIMMs also gathering dust.

Its a shame really.  If I could have got the A1200 working well on a monitor or my HDTV I would probably have kept it.  But ultimately I would need a scandoubler and it STILL probably wouldn't work right on my HDTV so it was just too much hassle.

I only want the RAM so I can run all my games via WHDLoad as some need more than the stock 2MB to boot and especially multi-floppy games set as a RAM preload.  I am not aware of any games that I would be interested in that need more than a stock A1200 CPU wise.  The nostalgia is about games I used to own and as most of the time I only had an A600, its a given that they all will work stock.  Its pretty rare I would even do that much as I am lazy in my old age and find it much easier to just fire up the Xbox 360, which is why I wish it had Amiga classics on it. ;-)  Or at LEAST on the Wii.

Basically, I do not have the space to have a separate monitor setup for the A1200 and the output from WinUAE is SOOO much cleaner than from the A1200 itself that I find composite unbearable. It was just a waste of money keeping the accelerator when I wanted to buy a tablet PC which can most likely handle WinUAE/E-UAE enough to run a decent workbench.

I am kicking myself now though for one reason only. I probably should have sold the SIMM seperately as 128MB is pretty rare and I am sure I could have found an old 16MB to stick in the accelerator.  But I REALLY hate selling stuff on eBay so kinda rushed the listing.  I guess I should have asked around on here first how much a 128MB SIMM is worth. DOH!

I was mistaken on the shipping costs but eBay does not let you revise the answer to questions.  Stupid Royal Mail website is VERY confusing as it does not by default list the ability to have additional insurance on Airsure postage so as explained above I was looking at the only one which DID mention the correct insurance.

Anyway, seeing as the buyer would need to request an invoice anyway I would have corrected on that.  Thankfully someone in the UK won it in the end so it was a lot simpler.

For the record I WAS able to close the trap door with the 128MB stick installed, but it was a little tight.  I never did though as the CPU seemed a little warm to be kept locked up behind a plastic panel. (why no vents in that panel?)

Like I said above, all I really need for my A1200 is a 4MB FastRAM board at the most.  Chances are I wont find one for peanuts so I wont bother.  I do not have the space to setup the A1200, might just squeeze the A600 on the desk though if it still works.

For the record, I probably still have a couple of 32MB EDO SIMMs lying around here if anyone is interested.  Might take some time to fish them out of all the junk though.  Also not sure if they would fit in a Blizzard as I recall they are quite thick - I really wish I had thought of this BEFORE getting rid of my Blizzard so I could test them.
