by default the fast ATA will split partions into 4gb. If you are using 3.5 or above you can use larger partions. However I have found that the ATA will boot fastest if you use boot partions of no more than 1gb. I have several of these devices and they are fast and reliable. Also newer cdroms and DVD roms  are most reliable. Some old devices will hang. Just some thoughts of longtime user.

Yes the little wire goes on pin 39, it just activates the HD led.
