Ram conflict
« on: August 23, 2007, 07:22:23 PM »
So here is my question:

I just got my slot accelerator (A2630) with 4 MB RAM. I plugged it in and it worked bing-bang-boom.

I also have a GVP SCSI controller with 8 MB RAM on it. That I have my HD and CD on.

Now it appears the A2630 takes over the RAM and I can only see the 4 MB on its board and the RAM on the GVP shows up as defective in the Board Diagnostics screen. It isnt defective as I pulled the card out again and it showed up fine.

I figure I may have to yank 4 MB from the GVP SCSI board and go back to 8 MB instead of the desired 12 MB.

Is there a way to access all of the RAM or is it a hardware limit that cannot be surmounted?

I also will be installing the Megachip in the system later on today!

Just set your GVP to '4 MB RAM only' and you're set. There's no way to configure >8 MB RAM in Zorro II space.

@rkauer
I/O boards usually allocate only 64 KB which is taken from a different location and doesn't interfere with the 8 MB memory space - as long as you have no more than 32 I/O boards attached... ;-)

Yep this is what I did and it showed up. I am about to put in the megachip! Woo hoo. Thanks to the members of this site I may have an SGI trade worthy Amiga 2000 ;)

Oh, I also found out my A25000 RAM 2MB board works the 8MB RAm on my GVP scsi board just took over... so its too bad someone didnt snap it up when I asked if anyone wanted earlier...
