Do you mean the jpeg itself is 2-3MB? If so, and the compression factor is around 10:1, then the
uncompressed image (and it must be uncompressed for display) will be around 20-30MB... and jpeg might be compressing by far more than 10:1 (5:1 is a high quality file, 20:1 will still give a decent output image).
