The conventional shorthand for the boot device, whatever it may be, hard disk, floppy, whatever, is SYS:

Don't use the "Execute a command" menu option (if that is what you are doing), open a Shell window and do it from there.

Use Execute a command and type "SYS:System/CLI" and then proceed.

I advise against calling your boot device "System", for obvious reasons...

a) There is normally a drawer inside SYS: that is already called System (you'll find Format in there, amongst a few other things)

b) If you try fiddling with the Resident command, you will find that there is a part of the internals called SYSTEM

This makes for possible confusion, at least for me if not for the machine. That is why I don't like naming a drive "System:" as I don't like the idea of having to type "System:System/command"

The Shell window is indeed for text input/output. It is a Command Line Interface, hence CLI, so no icons in there.

What disk is it asking for?

And unless 3.5 is waaay different from 3.0, there is no sys:presets ...

Try "SYS:Prefs/" followed by "Dir" and see what happens, you should see Env-Archive/ in there (this has been mentioned earlier)

If all that is too much typing, then just type "ENVARC:" and that should put you directly into the right place to start deleting/renaming your wrong preferences settings. (Of course, this presumes that you have booted successfully from your hard disk.)

You could try "Delete #? ALL" ... that will clear the whole lot

But I recommend going into "sys/" first and looking at things before you do anything too drastic.
