i.e. if you were to insert a floppy with a GIF, JPEG and ILBM pic on it, OS3.9 automatically knows what type the image is and displays the correct icon fo it. A simple double click on the pics icon results in it being displayed for you using Multiview. But you can configure OS3.9 so that other viewers can be used. Before I had a GFX card I configured OS3.9 to use PPshow for ILBM, FJPEG_AGA for JPEG and Viewtek for GIF :-)

NewIconsV4 with DefIcons does exactly that - lovely icons for loads of filetypes, configurable. Works great in OS 3.0/3.1 (KS 3.0 here).
