Second burnt PSU cable
« on: March 01, 2004, 02:18:48 AM »
My A4000T started acting up again.  This time, it would work for a while then the power and the drive LEDs would go off, the power to my optical mouse and keyboard would stop, and I would loose signal to my monitor.  However, the harddrives and CD drives would stay powered.

I just removed my case and notice the PSU's white connectors that attach to the motherboard have burn marks on them.  Fortunately, the motherboard looks fine.  This also happened to a PSU about a year and a half ago.  Is there something I can try to do to keep this from happening?

The pins on my mobo are flat metal, shaped like -> [.  They seem to be attached fairly good to the mobo.

Unfortunely, this PSU cable has been plugged and unplugged frequently.  The PSU seems fine but the connector look shot.  It looks like part of the connector cracked and two of the pins look like the are out of place.

Luckily, the A4000T uses standard PSUs (I think).  So I should be able to just get a new PSU and try to connect it so that the wires go behind the crossbar that supports the floppy drive.  That way if I need to remove that, I won't have to unplug the PSU cable anymore.

And what do you mean?  I shouldn't run anit-aircraft search lights from the Zorro bus?!  Where do you think I get the funding to repair my Amigas!?  :-)
