What is HIGHGFX and how does it work?
« on: July 28, 2008, 06:19:27 AM »
Jen's announcement of the new Indivision AGA included mention of the HIGHGFX driver.  This is very interesting!

I don't have the ability to download and view information on the package right now, and my insatiable curiosity has me in its grasp.  I'm hoping someone might shed some light on how these additional screen modes work.

Also, does the high resolution and color set put a strain on the available chipset bandwidth?  I recall that SuperHiRes caused my workbench to slow down considerably due to bandwidth issues.

This seems like quite an amazing device for US$180... maybe Christmas will see me with some new Amiga toys :)

I threw the 4000 back together tonight to try this.  There's nothing in the way of technical documentation with the package :-(

Also, it does not seem to work at all with my system.  Though it is probably a shortcoming in my FP2001 monitor not being able to handle the frequencies.  Or maybe it's the SD/FF in the PIV.  Meh.

I'll try it with the 1200 sometime, too.  I have an external FF/SD for it, though also with an FP2001.  Thanks for the help.
