Looking for specific C64 intro tune; asking here for reason
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:42:40 AM »
I have searched for this without luck.  I'm asking here because my comfort level with this community seems to exceed the necessity to break into another forum to ask a "stoopid noob" question.  And I know that some here are involved in the scene already.

Now the question: I'm looking for the music, or the name at least, to cracktro/intros produced by Abyss.  I cannot remember the musician, but I do remember the name Doppleganger as a member.

I believe that the tune I am looking for is in the intro to the Great Giana Sisters released with Super Mario Bros graphics in the US.

I like this piece so much that I took the time to punch it in as a ring tone on my old SonyEricsson T60d, T61d, and T62u cell phones.  I can hum a few bars if it would help ;-)

Thanks, but I might have been wrong.  I think the release was "Super Mario Bros", which was just Giana Sisters with new graphics.  This isn't the song I'm thinking of.

Now, where did you perform your search?  I'd be happy to spend some of my own time looking there.

@InTheSand

Have it, and went through it.  Not only did it take a long time, but it was seriously annoying to my girlfriend.  :-)

@Mikerucio

ACTUALLY, I would like to make a band arrangement of it, and I would love to get in touch with the original author.  I remember it in such detail I could easily recreate it from memory.  (Ah, if only I could flush a lot of the memory I have!  Is there an "avail" command for HumanOS?) ;-)

HAHA!  Yeah, if my memory serves correctly on the source of the song, that would be pretty darn neat.  I'm just getting up for work, so I'll be having a go at this later today.  Thanks to everyone!

I love reviving threads 10 months old :-)

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for ripping the SID for me: this IS the song I am looking for, and the information on the original source will be helpful in tracking down the author.

I actually found the game with the Abyss intro and used Vice to record capture the sound and convert it into an MP3, but this SID is MUCH better.  Thank you again.

BTW, I'm using DeliPlayer2 to play MODs and SIDs in Windows.  Does anyone use a better one, maybe one that actually allows me to change timings?  Also, what about a Java (specifically J2ME) SID player?

[edit]: I just found the timing controls in DeliPlayer :-P

I have two AY-3-8912 chips on a anti-static foam block.  I picked them up from a Radio Shack on clearance many many moons ago.  Initially I had planned to use them on a music board I wanted to build for my 64.  It was to have 16 SIDs and the two AYs as well.  Would have been a fun project.
