For $300, I'll take it Ed! Payment sent!

@JJ, we had been working out the details for a couple of days, but this last incentive was too good to pass up  :)

Dame me? No thanks, one GF is enough

I didn't have to sell her too hard (we don't have that kind of relationship), but I did off handedly mention that the little guy is really like 2 or 3 computers in one, including the familiar OSX environment. lol

But yeah, no kidding. I'm out of work too and pulling this off was a trick shot. Will have to sell a few toys to make up for it. Money just isn't as easy to come by anymore. I know a lot of people that are hurting worse than me though, so can't complain too much. Yet.

Enjoy your new toy save2600.  If you have not used MorphOS already I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the performance and compatibility of MorphOS2.4.

Oh yeah, I've used MorphOS before... remember, I had an Efika for a very short while. lol  Unfortunately, I didn't get very far with the MorphOS experience because that little Efika was just too wimpy. It'll be nice to be able to compare the two though. I'm expecting the G4 is going to meet or exceed my expectations and yes, I do have grand delusions of using an Amiga-like OS as my "main" system  :-)

Photo editing, web surfing, FTP'ing, E-mailing, music storing, some light word processing and spreadsheeting, scanning and printing out to my modern Canon Pixma is ALL I ask. If I can setup the Mini/MorphOS combo to act as a wireless internet hub for other computers around the house, I'll be golden  :-)

Poor computer, being made to do the work that a $10 device on craigslist can do...

LOL! Yeah, never had to purchase a Linksys or otherwise wireless hub since I use Mac's and they all have that capability built in  :)

Why computers (especially Mac's) don't yet have cable or DSL modems built in is kind of befuddling though. When it comes to modern computing, I abhor having a desk full of extra doo-dads that require their own power supplies.

Sorry for the fancy speak bbond007!

(I say "yep" too whenever I hear people talking about Wal-Mart or today in fact, when I heard the President say: "Tom Middlesex is in 'da house"!  Gotta love the bastardization of our language.

@Tone007: I never leave my computers plugged in and turned on 24/7. Horrible practice IMO. 1/2 the day though, I do leave my main system running in and out of sleep as I need it. BTW: I was unaware that PC's now come standard with wireless cards and can be used to setup a wireless LAN scenario. Must be a relatively new standard as the last time I looked at a PC (few years ago), they weren't yet included.

save2600,

I was more talking about every different device needing a different AC/Adapter (aka "Wall Wart"). Different sized plug, different voltage, polarity, etc... Annoying.

Also, don't expect the Minig4 with MorphOS to get wireless or bluetooth... You'll have to be tethered via the rj45.

Ahh... lol  Gotcha. Well hopefully, MorphOS will continue to mature and take better advantage of some of this hardware as time goes on. One of the reasons I hesitated making this purchase was because of the new X1000 machine coming out. I wonder how the popularity of a modern AmigaOS would affect development at this stage. Perhaps they're different enough in their marketing and targets to be safe for a while.

But you are supposed to leave the DSL modem plugged and powered 24/7 ,otherwise it must renegotiate or something. The DSL modem here came with a sticker stating be sure to leave it on for at least 10 dyas continuously to reach maximum speed.I have notice a "learning curve "  in that  connection speed was first reported as just over 1Mb but after a few days was 1.5,and seems to be leveling off just under 1.8Mb (which is a far cry from the 48kb of dial-up)An short jumper to the wireless router and access is available house (and yard)-wide.Except now there are TWO wal-warts  and devices on 24/7.Then there is the wal-wart for the answering machine, the HDTV,and all the other things that can not be turned off without needing reprogramming. It makes conserving electricity difficult.

While I never leave my computers on 24/7, I will admit I do usually keep the cable modem going. It takes such little power, BUT... I have not noticed any problems in turning it off (fully off, unplugged even) overnight, which I probably do once or twice a week. In fact, cable here sucks so bad, that I sometimes have to reset my modem (yes, it re-negotiates) in order to get it back going again. A minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things, just go into System Preferences and renew your DHCP lease and the internet pops back up within seconds.

Since I don't have a router, I have to reset my modem every time I hook a different computer to it. That's going to be the case with this Mac-Mini and was the case when I had my A2500 in the same room. Now that's a major pain. I see out in stores now, you can't even purchase a wired router any more. And the last time I went to our local Rat Shack, the knob salesman told me that a router and the switcher were the same thing(they apparently didn't stock routers). I tried to tell him the difference, especially when using OUR cable provider (which he was fully aware of to), but I took it home anyway since I asked about their return policy. Sure as shit, it didn't work - surprise.

Guess I should just buy a router online and be done with it.

Machine never received and I wouldn't want it now if even 1/2 of what the seller has said is true. Several weeks went by and all I received was piss poor communication, broken promises and what I would consider to be lame excuses. Lots of red flags with this transaction. PayPal communication escalated to fraudulent claim now after I gave him a chance to refund on his own volition, which he promised he would - but failed again. Details aside, caveat emptor people!
