cfidecp293 installation help!

It's Saturday night and I've been messing around with 2 Amigas all_day_ long to no avail. I'd really like to put these things together and move on with the evening.

Installed the cfidecp293 in my A500 rev. 5 mobo. Kickstart 3.1. Wired up the /OVR and /INT2 lines at the expansion port. System boots into floppy and I get the insert Kickstart screen. System obviously works. What doesn't work and is not recognized is the HD controller on this card. Shouldn't matter what the device is, but what the heck is it anyway? scsi.device just like the A600 device (even though it's IDE).

Can anyone help troubleshoot? I've got 2 CF cards that work fine in my slingshot and A2091. I also hooked the CF<>IDE Adapter into the port that hooks via ribbon cable. Same thing: nothing. HD capability is dead or nonexistent.

Well, scsi.device doesn't show up at all, so I can't proceed with defining anything new, I can only quit. Unless you mean I need to insert the 3.1 Install disk and "install" it that way. But I already have a known good, formatted CF card with OS3.1 already on it. Shouldn't the card just "work" upon insertion of the device? What would the Install program place on the CF card that isn't already there in order for it to be recognized by this home made device? And if that's the case, seems to me the thing would never autoboot if it needs something extra to get it going. When you first turn on the computer, you can tell the device isn't even bothering to search for a boot record as the Kickstart screen immediately pops up.  

And yes Jeff - I supplied power to the end of the ribbon cable AND also had a CF card inserted at the end of the unit - but not at the same time of course. Using the SCSI search tool from ASIMCDFS, it seems as if nothing is there. The scsi.device part of this board appears dead.

With LED connected in both positions (IDE and CF card), I get NO flashes or light.

Master setting is jumpered and KS is indeed 40.063.

Only ram is A501 and system is configured as 1mb Chip.

So it seems it's dead or no power getting to the IDE section? Should I try supplying it with +5v somewhere? If so, where?

I don't see there is need to add any +5v supply.

Are the connections to the /ovr and /int2 pins good? The pins on the header are a little short. Wire to pin header connectors often expect a little bit longer pins. (such as the A500 keyboard pin header and the wire-connector)

Yes, both /over & /int2 pins are soldered directly from the header pins of your board to the locations at the expansion bus. Thinking there might be a break somewhere along the way, using my DMM, I checked continuity from the expansion bus to their respective places on Gary & the CIA and they are fine.

For your last post seems you really have a hardware problem.

 Check if the voltage regulator grab the +5V from the computer and is supplying +3.3V.

 You can safely sack the CPU from the board before powering the Amiga for this purpose.

You're saying the regulator is underneath the CPU? Okay, I'll check that and see if there is 3.3v...

Underneath the CPU is Q1 & Q2 - those are the only two transistors I see. Both read +4.8 or thereabouts. The transistor sitting outside the socket (is that not the regulator?) gives me the same reading. I do not measure 3.3v across any of the transistors...

Also, device LD33 (the regulator?) is super hot to the touch! You cannot hold your finger on it, not even for a second. I measure +4.8 volts across its 3rd from the left leg (emitter?). Not 3.3v

BTW: the two black components to the right of the LD33 regulator... the one directly to the right of it, does not measure +4.8 whilst the other one does...

No LED activity at all upon startup, reset or anything. This thing seems shot to me MRMKL and I'm no stranger when it comes to soldering. I didn't do anything to have caused this thing to fry. Perhaps I could use this still though in my A1000 as a riser so another cfidecp293 could fit in harmony with the disk drive? lol
