Is this a decent price for this Spec ?
« on: July 03, 2006, 01:41:30 PM »
Hi everyone

I have the opportunity of buying an A1200 in a Power Tower case with the following spec ...

A1200 Motherboard
Phase5 PowerPC 603e @ 175mhz with 68040 CPU
Phase5 BLizzard Vision 3d Graphics accelerator with 8mb
128mb system memory
4-port IDE interface
Windows Keyboard interface
CD-Rewriter
6gb HDD
POWER computing TOWER

I am told it is in mint condition.

The price would be £275 (UK Pounds).  Is this a fair price for the above spec do you think ?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

Would you walk away from it then ?  I was tempted by the PPC card and BVision 3D.  I do have the possibility of an A4000 depending on spec too but am awaiting the details.

Greetings

Well, I went for it in the end :-)

I got it for £275 but got some extra software thrown in along with various manuals.

Looking at recent prices on ebay, I think it is a reasonable price.  Bargain - perhaps not.  But its an Amiga 1200 in Power tower case with PPC card (albeit 040 160mhz) with BVision graphics card.  Happy Days !

Maybe - but bearing in mind that I asked the Seller if he would add a buy it now price BEFORE there were any bids and the conversation went from there, I am still reasonably happy with the price.

You misunderstood - there were no bids when I asked the Seller if they would add a buy it now - and the conversation went from there.  All perfectly innocent.  I wasn't out to try and dupe anyone - there was no-one bidding at the time.
A little unfair and un-called for but I can understand your point of view.

By the way, I was referring to your comment being a little unfair and uncalled for, just for the record ! :-)

The FACT IS that I asked the question before anyone was bidding.  It was a fair enough question at that time.  Because the seller continued the discussion after bids had been placed is not my fault.  I was not keeping an eye on who was bidding by that time.
Your inference that I have been unfair to other bidders and people watching is what I am objecting to.  This is NOT FACT. OK ?  Enough said !!!

If I really wanted to I'd send it to the amiga center in france and have it modded to an 060.. but I'm not that bothered about it really...

Can you tell me more about the Amiga Centre in France and what they can do with an 040 PPC card ?

Thanks ...

A quick update for you all ...

The Amiga eventually arrived 3 weeks after the cheque was sent to the seller.  The box that the Amiga was packed in was in a really bad way and had not been taped properly.  The seller had not used any polystyrene packing at all, like he promised to use and the whole thing was in a bit of a state.  The Parcel Force man said he would not blame my other half for not accepting it as he would do the same ! (I was at work at the time).  So the item was refused and sent back to the sender.  I had already emailed the seller to ask for my money back as he had had my cash for 2 weeks after the cheque had cleared without sending me the Amiga and I just wanted my cash back.

Anyway, we are now 2 weeks on from the date the Amiga was sent back to him and I still do not have my money back.  Nor do I have any reply at all to any email I have sent to him.

I am sorry to say that I have now had to take legal advice to try and recover my money (Originally £316.35 inc postage costs).  I have told the seller that I will happily accept the postal charges as the item was refused and sent back (due to the bad packing of it) and I have also said I will cover his ebay costs if he just sends me the balance - but no response !

If anyone sees this Amiga on ebay again it is being sold illegally so please avoid it !!!

I have had a conversation with the Police and they have said there may be grounds for criminal proceedings on the grounds of theft.

Thanks.

Hi again - yet another update ...

How weird is this ? ...

Having heard nothing at all from the seller after 4 weeks had passed since the Amiga was returned to him, I contacted Parcel Force out of curiosity, just to make sure the Amiga did actually get sent back to him.  Eureka !!!  After several calls and and a couple of call-backs, it transpired that the Amiga was sitting in Parcel Force's depot with no label on it, so they did not know where to send it back to.  So it had just been sitting there in the depot for 4 weeks, doing nothing and going nowhere.

So, I take back the moaning re the sender not responding to my emails (although you would have thought he would at least have replied to at least one of the emails I sent, saying he had never received it back etc !  Could have saved me a lot of time and worry).  Anyway, I arranged for Parcel Force to re-deliver the machine and it turned up today.  The box is a bit battered and the 2nd box of software is still "in transit" and on its way to me.  I haven't checked it yet so wish me luck - hopefully the 1200, the PPC card and BVision will all be ok having been hauled up and down the UK's motorways for several weeks.

This is definitely the end of this post.

Phew !!!
