Kickstart 3.1 in A2000
« on: September 01, 2006, 11:47:28 PM »
I'm pretty new to Amiga, and I know nothing about installing hardware in Amigas.  I need help installing kickstart ROMs in my A2000.  I currently have Kickstart 2.04 and would like to upgrade to 3.1.  I have a Rev. 6.2 motherboard and a GVP G-Force 030 accelerator card installed.  Are there any other upgrades I need to install before I install the new ROMs?  If possible, I would like step-by-step instructions with pictures, because I don't think I could figure it out by just reading what to do.  Any help is appreciated, and I hate to sound like a total newbie.  This is probably a simple procedure for the rest of you, but I know very little about Amiga upgrading.

Thanks for the advice.  I was just afraid I'd install it wrong or remove something I'm not supposed to and totally mess up everything.  Is there only one ROM chip I need to replace?

Ok, thanks again.  I feel like a total idiot now for not knowing such a simple upgrade.

Do you know of anywhere I can get the GVP simms?  There's an amiga dealer not too far from where I live.  Or are they so rare that not even he would have them?

Yeah, that's what I meant.  Raymond Commodore Amiga in St. Paul, MN.  It's basically a junk shop full of Commodore and Amiga stuff.  It looks like someone's messy garage.  You can hardly walk through the place trying to avoid all the stuff piled up on the floor.  The funny thing is that the guy who owns it knows where everything is in that mess.  I went in looking for a 1084 monitor and he homed in on one right away in a pile of stuff.

He might have some GVP simms in that mess somewhere, I'll have to go ask.
