Hi mate, I made my serial link cables years ago and used telephone wire and two serial connectors.
The cable was over twenty foot long and worked fine with no problems and took me thirty minutes to solder it.
Games we played via the serial port were
01 Stunt Car Racer
02 Falco (flight simulator)
03 RVF Honda
O4 Lotus3
we had great fun playing these they were brilliant.
Cannot remember if XJ220 Jaguar was multi link as well.

Don't forget FIREPOWER for some multi- player, plan view tank action. Squashed soldiers look very similar to a more recent Puny Humans game I've seen.
