You have to download extra bits to make it equivalent to something that already works fine out of the box. What good is that?

This is why they made those packs with text editors and DPaint and such.
Isn't this the same with Linux for example?
Also Linux as it - is just a Kernel.
All the programs in Linux are gnu tools and do actually not belong to Linux.
So people/companies took time and effort to bundle them all together into a working useable distribution.
