As a 1200/Mediator owner I see this differently.

My 1200 is not in a "pc case" its in a tower, an Amiga one, as it happens, and it runs Amiga games at "full speed" or faster, and is genuine Amiga hardware with all the wonder that that entails. Can a Sam play Paradroid `90, Falcon, or Carrier Command?

With UAE? Wouldn't I do that better on a PC?

I'm not saying a 1200/Mediator is the only route, or even necessarily the best route, but it works for me, and what happened to different strokes for different folks?
