First off, why so many security problems in the first place. Now this? It's a joke...
But maybe this ties in with the RIAA's latest plans (another news item here.)

slashdot.org a poster points out that one of the purposes of this may be to...
* Compute a digital fingerprint of played content and check with a Microsoft server to see if it's pirated. This would make the RIAA and MPAA very happy. (Isn't this already being done for audio CDs, to get the title info?)

I don't think I'd be so paranoid about these things if M$ wasn't keeping us all in the dark so much.
