Just out of interest, what was the basic rate of pay for teachers before sanctions? Because I remember reading how Saddam used to heavily invest in education. It was supposed to be excellent in Iraq before we put blocks on importing educational books and equipment.

And how long will these impressive rates last? Call me cynical, but this seems like a publicity stunt. The teachers being payed something was the first thing channel 4 jumped on to show the positive effects of the invasion the other night.
