Calling all UK Amigans - Hardware oppertunities
« on: March 27, 2008, 02:01:13 PM »
Hi all,
With a bit of luck I'll be placing an advert in Rapid Electronics' newsletter for anyone with any unused Amiga equipment in the UK to get in touch.
I’m still figuring out quite how to handle any offers (Either I'll list them here manually on A.org or I'll try and sort something else out), but, one thing is for sure, I'll probably need to know which Amigans live in, and where you might be located in the UK.

Regards,
Hodgkinson.

I was thinking AmiBay too. The only snag is it isn't like the old one, where anyone could post - You've got to have an account set-up first - Which will deter most people from listing.

I might try signing up and listing any replies manually.

TiredOLife: Are you in the UK?

OK and thanks for the comments ;-) I'll see what I can arrange with Rapid. I’m thinking of passing the advert pass you guys first before I post it for submission - Anyone interested?

PS. Somewhere here on A.org there is a huge C= logo. I’m looking for it (And the author...For permission) to use as a backdrop for the advert. I think it was used for a T-Shirt at some point. Can anyone remember where it is?

@WotTheFook:
I appreciate your comments - Agreed, AmiBay should be much safer than Amibench. I was just pointing out the facts why I feel that using AmiBay for role involving people outside the community might be difficult - I personally don't like having to sign up to a website just to use it once

PS. Recycle Bin? I still can't see any *obvious* links...Could you post me a URL?

EDIT: Come to think of it, reading the thread, here might be just as good a place as any. If anyone replies, I'll try to post a item and its location, then sort out anything else by pmail. That is, IF anyone replies to the advert...

OK, I've signed in to AmiBay. Any chance of me being granted access to the Recycle bin? (I would say somthing relating to Merlin and Magic, but I won't bother  )

EDIT: Good lord, you really are Merlin - You must of read my mind  The A.org page hadn't even finished refreshing!

Thanks for all your replies.

I'd appreciate it if someone could have a quick look at the *proposed* advert. Its online here in a word document (Of all things).
Let me know if you're willing and I'll drop you the username and password.

Best regards,
Hodgkinson.

EDIT: Doh, file now offline now it's been sent. Forgot to update post.

Right.

...I've been trying to get a web email address to work on my new webpage. After a lot of waiting and twiddling of thumbs, commodore@booni.info can receive email, but I can't send to my normal AOL account (Errors returned, AOL account fine...) and neither does the autofowarder work. The cpanel itself is also hit and miss. :headwall:
Would it be any detriment if I just used my normal AOL email, rich1richard2304@AOL.com, or would this make people think stuff like "Who are these people?" and "wtf?". At least it seems to be rock solid. Just hope AOL's spam catchers don't chop people out...
 On the other hand, if anyone has a server or similar service capable of having webmail accounts set up, and forward the mail to my normal AOL address, could you help?

...No reply from neongod re the use of his C= backdrop...He last logged in over a month ago. If anyone has a C= that they wouldn't mind letting me use, I'll stick that in for the advert backdrop instead, otherwise im going to have to leave it out.

The advert needs to be submitted some time early next week at the latest.
With a bit of luck, it sounds like we could have an ad in both the spring and summer editions of the newsletter.

OK, I’m probably dragging things out a bit, but most people probably wouldn't realise that quite a lot of PC hardware (Or certain common IC's) can in fact be used in our miggies.
I'm thinking of the less common stuff that will become hard to get hold of soon, or is already hard to acquire, as opposed to stuff like 3.5" IDE drives, even though SATA is coming into play.

(Starts a list, hopes others will add and prioritise...)

-SCSI Hardware ("Devices" implies drives; hardware implies the whole shebang...)
-72 Pin SIMM RAM
-Small IDE 2.5" Drives
-68000 series IC's (Applies to mac owners?)

I intend to add a short footnote (Maybe max 4 items) to the advert.

Update:
Computerepoch^an_ti*-*sp_am^@AOL.com now set up. Seems to be working OK.

I'll add those extra 4 items to the advert.

Should be posting to Rapid in the next 1/2 hour or so.

Last minute ideas welcome :-D

Bah. Nothing yet. :-(

Well, in the meantime, have a look at the advert. (540K)
The ad should still be printed for one or two months yet, so there's still a chance.
