Updating from WB3.0 to WB3.1
« on: January 23, 2008, 06:41:53 PM »
OK,
My A1200D (The one on the sig...) is currently running WB3.0 with KS3.0. I have the WB3.1 install disk set and new KS3.1 ROMs.

Should I:

A) Install WB3.1, then insert the ROM's?

B) Insert the ROM's, then install WB3.1?

Does the installation of WB3.1 require a completely fresh install, or can WB3.0 be upgraded to WB3.1 whilst leaving startup-sequences, drivers, libs, etc intact?

And finally, anyone any ideas with regards to how updating from WB3.0 to WB3.1 would affect backwards compatibility of RAD: reboot loading games such as StarFighter:D'Yammen's Reign?

Thanks,
Hodgkinson.

Thanks for the tip.
So, I take it as read that WB3.0 can operate correctly with KS3.1 ROM's?

Re ROM's, yeah, I know where they go. I bought the ROM's from AmigaKit so I've got there install guide.
That’s actually half the reason for updating, since I've got to rummage around in the A1200 some time soon to add one or two extra bits to it that im buying.

Backups...Will make one anyway. As I assume that the network probably won't work all that well with a dead OS, then I assume that the best choice would to be to back it up to a separate partition?

Thanks,
Hodgkinson.

Sounds like a good idea.

If there is an option in the install script for WB3.1 to update an existing version of WB3.0, I guess that it might be possible for me to have a look at the install script and just copy the essential update files?

(Just double checking before I shove the ROMs in to find out that WB3.0 no longer runs and Im forced to do a hasty kludge ridden install of WB3.1...)

OK Thanks for all the advice folks!

When my parcel (That is, a parcel of electronics gubbins from Rapid Electronics :-o ) arrives early next week I'll assemble one or two bits to go into the miggy and I'll add the ROMs at the same time.

Regards,
Hodgkinson.
