Custom chip temps
« on: June 14, 2007, 11:55:35 AM »
Hi there,
Can anyone who currently has their A1200 uncovered give me an idea which IC's run the hottest (Ex the 68020)?
I'm working on a Cad design for a heatsink for the custom chips and my tests seem to suggest that Alice runs the hottest, by far, especially when running a AGA demo sequence, in which case it heats up rapidly. However, amiga.org members suggest that Lisa runs the hottest (With dblpal) and suffers from overheating causing gfx errors.

Any observations?

Hodgkinson.
Main A1200D: WB3.0, 3.1 ROMs, 2GB HDD, Blizzard 1230IV (64MB RAM + FPU) and a whole load of custom heatsinks... :flame:

Yeah, the custom chips dont *normally* need heatsinks, but im looking to add one or two anyway. As I say, Alice seems to get particularly hot rather quickly when certain AGA demos are run. And what about the video errors caused by lisa overheating?
Besides, those custom chips are *big* chips with a lot of gates in there just waiting to pack up one day. The cooler I can get them to run, the longer they'll live.

Observations appreciated (And a note to say what was running at the time would be nice...),
