Compared to modern (pc) optical mice, none of the Amiga mice that I've had (including a Naksha 400dpi) have been particularly good.  All, whilst not failing completely, have developed dodgy buttons and required regular cleaning.  I'd certainly recommend buying a PS2 adapter and a PS2 optical mouse.  Logitech do a nice mouse for about £6 (www.ebuyer.com).  I built an adapter based on the 'PS2M' design - cost about £5, which works extremely well.

@bludger - I've got an optical pen mouse (3-button) which I think was made by Alfa Data (not too sure as it's tucked away 'somewhere'.  This was really good - especially for Deluxe Paint.  This mouse required a special reflective pad too.  Take a look on www.ebuyer.com, they sell mouse pads with gel wrist rests - the grey version (if they still sell it) is actually reflective and whilst this plays havoc with pc optical mice, it may be just what you need for your Golden Image.  I might consider selling my mouse pen if you're interested.
