Amiga floppy image format?
« on: September 01, 2007, 01:37:14 AM »
Is there any truly free format that can handle copyprotected discs like the IPF format does?

I did some calculations on what a floppy image format would need:
Assumption: 300 rpm, 250 kbps
Max bits per one track on one side:
250000*(60/300)     = 50000 bits/trackside

The really raw format would be to use 7bit values (due to 2% rpm tolerance) with 4 us cycle time.

Assuming a max of 100 000 pulses/trackside the discimage would be:
  (100000*7)*2*80*(1/8)*(1/1024) = 13671.875 kByte

Using the MFM demodulated data, the size becomes:
  (50000)*2*80*(1/8)*(1/1024) = 976.5625 kByte

What's the SPS tool..?

If the copy protection can't be preserved, will the image still work for running the application?
