SSD on Amiga 4000
« on: March 19, 2016, 03:22:22 PM »
Hi,

I recently bought a IDE to SATA adapter (delock). I want to replace the old IDE drive in my amiga 4000.

I tested this with a standard laptop SATA drive and its works like a charm. But since 500gb is bit of overkill, i tried a 128gb SSD.

HDToolbox (OS3.9) seem to work, i can initialize the drive, and i can make partitions.
When i make a partition bootable, my amiga wont start, HDD led stays lit after some time. I think it tries to read the partition info since i hear the amiga load from disk.

When i dont make a partition bootable, i can boot from USB on my deneb (wich contains a copy of my WB3.9 partition ;)
I can format, but it go's wrong when i want to read or write to the SSD.

Can this be the type of SSD used? The SSD i used is an Intenso 128gb.

A500, 2,5mb fast, 512kb chip, a590 + 8gb SD (scsi2micro-sd) and internal gotek

I just tried some onther HD's to, same story ;(

These were Thosiba SATA and a samsung SSD.
Only an old laptop sata works, and this one is pretty old and it makes a wierd sound. So i dont trust this drive anymore..

At the moment i preparing an IDE to SD adapter. Its not the fastest method, but atleast i now have a full backup, and it works ;) But only 2,8 mb/s according to sysinfo. But i think the standard IDE doesnt go any faster.

Just tried it on my MSX turbo-r and (Sunrse DE) and it works flawless, but cant use a slave.

I think i give it a try on my buddha and/or tandem IDE controller.  This can take a while, there "some where" on my attic with a lot of other hardware ;)
