Query about BPPC and possible problems
« on: November 06, 2007, 06:50:41 PM »
I have recently bought a towered A1200 with a BPPC and BVISION on it. The problem is that when i tried to power it on it wouldn't boot. Everything seemed to work fine as the mobo and the BPPC + fan were running ok but without any sign of the familiar boot screen on my 1084 monitor. Only a blank screen. It has to be said that no hard disk or floppy drives were connected to the mobo. Anyway, i dismantled everything and tried to check every part separately. Everything went good and my miggy booted (even though after some 30 seconds wait)to the initial screen ONLY when i powered it on without the PPC and BVISION. Any ideas and suggestions please?

I have already connected it to my 1084 and to a SVGA monitor but nothing happened.

Let's clear out what i have already tested.

1) Tried to boot the system with the BPPC and BVISION connected but after a looooong wait nothing really happened so then

2) i disconnected the BVISION but still no result so

3)i dismantled everything and connected only the M/B to my 1084 to see if the mobo was faulty. It booted naturally to the initial screen

In every attempt i connected my miggy either to an old 1084 monitor (which should be said works fine with my other 1200) or to a SVGA monitor through the BVISION.

Should i blame the lack of HD or floppy (which aren't yet connected)?. Does the boot procedure with a BPPC on, require any of these two to be connected?

After numerous attempts i managed to boot in 3.9 having the PPC on the mobo. The board proved to be OK and working but problems that occur now are:

1) when i add ram on the PPC all that i get trying to boot is a trembling screen on the 1084 so nothing can be seen clearly. As soon as i boot without fast ram everything works fine except from the fact that OS 3.9 is practically uunusable due to lack of RAM

2) Another case is with BPPC on and the IDE port "dead" not recognising any HD. When i remove the BPPC everything turns to normal. Suggestions please as i'm going nuts

The PSU is a heavy duty PC PSU (brand new) modified by a friend technician so i don't know if it's to blame this. I have a modified Y cable (self made) that delivers to the floppy and to a CD-ROM which i don't dare to use until i clear things out. Any relation with the fact that i don't boot with any RAM on the board? Any other ideas and suggestions?

What do you mean by "....both the original Amiga connector and the floppy one....."
The configuration is:
A1200 mobo (rev 1D)
new ATX PSU
BPPC 603e+ 040
HD (connected to the mobo via a standard 2,5 cable)
floppy (connected to the mobo via a simple floppy connector (not hacked or sth)

I dismantled everything self made and now the system behaves strangely. Once with the PPC connected the HD won't even spin. If BPPC gets disconnected HD spins and boots to a freezing workbench screen.
