SCSI CDRom Jumper settings?
« on: March 22, 2007, 12:36:51 AM »
I have 7 jumpers to set on the back of the CDRom.So which do I need to set the drive up to use my Squirrel interface?
1-ID1
2=ID2
3=ID4
4=Parity
5=SectorSize
6=Reserved
7=Term Power

Anybody able to advise me which jumpers to set on the drive?What is the parity jumper for? The Term Power jumper I presume is the onboard terminator needed with SCSI?

The drive is an IBM CR-506-B

Hi Guys thanks for the tips but what about Parity what does that mean? @ A4000 Mad I've tried your CD0 but no joy on SCSI CDRom that was origionally fitted so am trying to get one of the job lot CDRom's set up.I get the same result drawer opens and closes the light comes on briefly after closing but only difference is CDRom is still spinning but no icon and no light after initial insertion of a CD.Going to have a go with setting up some of the other CDRoms I got in the job lot of ten!!!!Would like an explanation of parity though but keep it simple please!!
I forgot to say using the software to find the hardware does not show up any CDRoms at all.The one included on the Squirrel install discs and the one of IDE Fix? that A4000 Mad sorted for me

Sorry Folks cannot do that at the moment 1200's half stripped down. I've tried altering the CD0 to various ID's but no result. Using the Squirrel software I can't find any CD Rom no matter what ID I set it to.Neither the Find Device software that Mad sent me does'nt find any CDRom either.I'm getting an external CDWriter through any day now so I'm going to try setting my Amiga with that it has the power supply built in fed by a mains cable.The enclosure I'm using at the moment is a bit flakey might be due to non origional powerpack.

OH Joy Oh what heaven I now see the CD rom Icon on my workbench!!!!! Dont ask me how I've finally cracked it but using the origional CDRom I've got it working.It would appear the Power computing manual I got with it that said device 3 was not right.In fact it shows up as device 1 the only other thing I did was really push the Squirrel into the slot with a lot more pressure that's all!!! Ran the install software and it did as it was suposed to at each stage.The next step is to change the drive out to one of the IBM drives to sort out the jumpers and how they work out the device number and I'm home and dry.CD copying is that possible if I add an external SCSI CDRW as another device to the chain?

I saw the news about Make CD!!!My SCSI CD Writer arrived in the post today unfortunately its the 25 pin variety!! Could not see that in the photo on Ebay just looked the same as the one I've got.What cables do I need to try and get it working on the chain? At least the ID is alterable without having to take it out of it's casing and it also has an inbuilt jumper for termination on the back as well.

I got the CDRom working as ID 1 even though I'm pretty sure the jumpers on the drive were set to ID3!!!! Anyway I've decided not to push my luck any further just at the moment but will find out if where etc about connecting up the CDRW first.Thinking about it I'll have to make the CDRW the last in the chain though or otherwise I'll have to get multiple custom cable adapters that's if it is possible to get them.No hope in getting any around here though.All the local PC shops reckon SCSI is dead and gone!!!! All they seem to want to talk about is IDE SATA & PATA.
