From the BBC today:

Things that amaze me:

Making a $235m quarterly loss rather than a profit of $329m can increase your share price by 18%!

They increased their cash to about $2.3bn from $2.2bn.  I guess Bill lent them some money.

On the positive side, that massive cash reserve could really help them launch a new product, but is it way too late?  The company I'm consulting for are replacing their Blackberry phones this year with Apple phones (despite the security fears).

I could imagine that RIM will get some indirect help by Apple. The iphone5 just isn't _that_ great. It's good, but ppl start to realize that Apple is boiling with water, too. My expectation is that the Apple hype will slowly decrease now to a rather normal and healthy level. Competitors will get a bit more attention again. I doubt tat RIM products will ever ride a hype wave like Apple, but they have teh chance to regain a better marketshare than today.
They could also put their building quality and social standards more into public reception. I heard they are (among other sites) producing in Germany - no Foxconn suicide slaves. If they produce in the U.S. too, they could ride the "buy American" wave. If the PR department is doing a good job, they will find arguments convincing customers
