I recently obtained a Sirius II genlock as well, including manual, leads and software (congratulations, it's a nice genlock)  :-)

As to the serial connection, according to the manual, this is a regular serial cable. Framiga is also right in stating that the serial port is only needed if you want to control the Sirius II from your Amiga using the included software or using your own scripts (it has ARexx support).

Please note, that the serial lead is also used to draw power from the Amiga. If you do not connect the genlock via the serial port you'll need to power the Sirius II using a 12V adapter. Also if you have a lot of other peripherals connected to your Amiga, supplying the genlock with its own source of power is probably a good idea, whether you have the serial cable connected or not.

Unfortunately I was indeed wrong. Like CLS2086 said, the serial cable is NOT used for power. So it is totally optional (unless you want computer control over the genlock). The 'special' cable he is referring to is a cable that plugs into the RGB output of your Amiga. The other end is a 15-pin connector that plugs into the genlock. It is this cable that delivers power to the genlock and allows the Amiga to sync to the external signal.

Unfortunately the manual does not have any diagrams/pin configuration of this cable. I think it was specifically created by Electronic Design for the Sirius II (and perhaps some of their other models), so unless you got that cable together with the Sirius II you're out of luck. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any more help to you.  :-(
