Picked up 2 free Amiga's today!
« on: October 21, 2006, 11:10:55 PM »
I got 2 Amiga's today for free, an A1000 and an A2000! After dragging all stuff into my room I started dismantling them and checking what's inside.

The A1000 hasn't been opened yet, but I doubt that anything odd is inside. It only has the 256kB expansion.

The A2000 has the following:
-Macrosystem DeInterlace 2000
-Combitec Autoboot A2090B
-GVP 2000-HC SCSI controller
-C= A2090 SCSI controller
-C= A2630 turboboard

When I turn on the machine I see a black screen with a mousepointer and a MacroSystem logo. The logo and pointer disappear after some 30 seconds.
(When I remove the A2090 the machine boots to the normal floppy bootscreen, but the MacroSystem very briefly flashes.)

When I press both mousebuttons on startup I see a white screen with 3 options:
-AmigaDos on 68000
-AmigaDos on 68030
-AMIX
Clicking on either of the options only gives the Macrosystem logo again.

What does this bootscreen do? It doesn't work with the floppydrive either, floppies aren't recognised at all with the A2090 inside..

I think the startup screen has got something to do with the turboboard and/or the Autoboot card.

Besides the 2 machines, I also got a LOT of other stuff, including some 3500 5,25" diskettes, so if anyone is interested...
There was also an old Humbird multiscan monitor (which syncs down to 15kHz, so that's pretty cool), a mouse (never used - new in box), quite a lot of games in their original boxes, a few books, and some 300 magazine coverdisks.

I guess all this stuff will keep me busy for weeks again (months maybe if I'm going to check all 5,25" disks   )

Yes that bootscreen is for the standard C=2630 to boot in 68000 mode, 68030 mode and  a 3rd mode is for some kind of UNIX version from Amiga, not sure.  Menu Allows for backward compatibility for older software.

Can that menu be disabled? I would rather prefer the normal KS3.1 early startup menu than this odd thing...

I was already planning to leave out the 2090 and the boot card. I doubt that the MFM harddrive has got anything useful on it, so I will get myself a normal SCSI drive to connect to the GVP. There's also a Syquest 44MB drive, which I will probably exchange for a SCSI CD-Rom

The A2630 is revision 9.2, though I have no idea which ROMs version I have, they are the same as in this picture on TBBOAH.

I also noticed on TBBOAH that there's a jumper which disables the bootmenu, I'll give that a try.

As to the deinterlacer: I haven't tried it yet, I just hooked the machine up to my M1438, so I don't know if that card works correctly.
