Because the 1080 is built by Toshiba, I don't see how the other monitors built by other different manufacturers would help in this case, i.e., each different monitor would have a different schematic and would not be anything like that of the Toshiba.

They would only help if they used the same ic's. I once used a Toshiba schematic on a Magnasonic TV because they both used a TA 8680N main ic. The circuit around the ic was similar enough for me to find the problem. Certainly not ideal, but desperate times......
A working 1080 would help for comparing voltages, waveforms etc., but nothing beats a good schematic

Ray has not given up.  Here is his latest update --

"...your encouragement to compare readings from a working monitor inspired me to try again with yours. With that technique, I did find one IC that seems to have all inputs but one pin has no output. Bypassing that IC brought a picture back so I'm going to order a replacement chip. I say with crossed fingers, you may get a working monitor back. :-)"

Yeah, that was one of my favorite methods for a real "dog" (hard to fix unit). I've even used it when I had a schematic. Some schematics are better than others showing voltages, waveforms, others just show the components. Glad he's  on the trail now.
