Amtrade HD floppy
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:29:17 PM »
My Chinon HD floppy drive died so I took the Amtrade "real HD solution" drive from a junked 4000. Unfortunately the person who junked it removed the small PCB board from the back of the Sony drive. There is a small wire from inside the drive that must plug into the connector on the back of the board. Does it go to the 5v, 12v or ground? The Sony drive (MPF920-E) has 5v marked on the label so I tried that, no luck. Do floppy drives need 12v as well? Thanks.

Can't help you out with your question, but did you consider that the 5 volt connection might have been the right one, but the previous owner took the PCB off to try to see why the drive was not working?  It might be dead.

Well, I'm not sure if it works or not, but the problem with the "junked" A4000 was a bad motherboard (I mailed it off to New Zealand for repair)
