Derring 030 question?
« on: July 11, 2008, 11:53:48 PM »
Hi

I bought a derringer 030 for my cdtv, but the SIMM in the socket is only seen if I pull the SIMM up in its socket.

Cleaning it did not work.  So it can be the SIMM or the socket , I have no other 72pin test ram anymore, never thought I would used it in the future ;-)

My knowledge about 72 pin SIMM’s is a bit rusty . Do I need a 3,3v or a 5v SIMM? In my Derringer 030? Must it be single or can it be double sided?

I have found the correct AMP SIMM socket on the farnell side but they have a minimum order amount of 50 euro’s Then I found that amikit sells 72 pin sockets. My question is will the pin out fit? Amikit  only shows a small picture. Does anyone know’s if the pin footprint is more or less the same?

The Derringer runs at 25 MHz but a 50 MHz version also exists.  Can I upgrade the 25 MHz 68030 for a 50 MHz 68030?

Regards Sebastian,-

I already lifted all the pins on the SIMM socket and also resolderd al the pin’s. I will order a SIMM socket from amikit and replace it.

About the upgrade, a 50 MHz 68030 is a little hard to come by, there is one on ebay, but I can’t afford one right now. I also am a disaster with ebay, here in the Netherlands we use marktplaats a lot mostly with fixt prices.

First the SIMM slot, then the Harddisk, cut the cover or lit so the accelerator will fit when its closed. I have a nice black air vent for it. But I will try the upgrade if I can find a cpu next month.

Thanks for now ;-)
