Around here (Canada) PPCs and 060s are as rare as hen's teeth, so I'm always amazed when you Europeans say you have 2 or 3 of them.

I just have an 040 (which has served me very well).

I was thinking, there are probably only about 2500 working PPC boards still around in the world, and less in use.  This is just a guess, of course.

So that really caps the number of OS4.0 copies that will be sold - unless a new board is released.

I too would never spend $500US for a used, ten year old PPC card that had been through the hands of several owners.

I might pay that though for a brand new card --- come on new hardware!

Do you honestly think you could buy a NEW card for 500 bucks, even if they were being manufactured?
It'd be nice, but I seriously doubt it!

Well, what you are missing is the fact that these old 060/PPC boards are selling for such high prices on Ebay is precisely because they are no longer being manufactured.  Therefore they are rare, and there is a clamour for one every time it appears in an auction.  Hence: madness.

The inflated Ebay prices do not reflect that actual manufacturing cost to do a run of modern PPC cards using current components.

Having newly made PPC boards on the market might even bring some sanity back to the prices for the old PPC boards - as there wouldn't be as much demand.
