IIRC using an ethernet adapter on the Subway will be slower than a PCMCIA adapter card, so really not worth it IMO. The Subway can be interesting for the USB ports though.
If you want to maintain the A1200 in it's original case then I think a sound card would be the best expansion, but it depends on your preference.

Beware that there were some incompatibility problems when using clock port splitters, it's been too long for me to remember what they were, but I remember they existed...
