Blizzard 1240 with trapdoor closed?
« on: July 20, 2003, 09:11:11 PM »
I know the DCE version (have P5 version here) are spposed to fit desktops more easily, but does anyone knows if you can put the trapdoor back on  with one of those?Even the models with a fan? I know about heating problems, I just would like to know that info. The version I got has the memory modules in diagonal so I can't  put memory in the accelerator without raising the computer.
A solution would be using the SCSI-Kit for the memory, but I'd like to hear some tests as performance might be lower.

In the SCSI kit one can put doulbe sided SIMMS but on the acc. board you can't, so IF the performance is the same I'll get double sided ones, but if not I'll have to swap accelerator as I'm not willing to towerise it (already have one for thart) :-(  :-(  :-(

Dude! Did you had a fan on the 040? With trapdoor on or off?

@Mikeymike
That's what I got, but I got the Phase5 version. The thing has the memory SIMMs in diagonal, so trapdoor off is still not enouph, I still have to raise the thing.
But if you still can't close the trapdoor (cause of CPU fan? Or memory modules?) I guess it's not worth to exchange my card for a DCE version. I'll just stick in the SCSI-Kit (wich has remained unused!) and use it's mem SIMM socket witch is on the inside of the card.

@amiga1260
No I got the phase5 version.
Interesting it is possible to close the trapdoor with the 1260(?) the only thing that prevents is it gets too hot.
If the performance is the same  then I'm there. The Phase5 version accepts thicker SMMS I think, but they can't be much tall.  :-D

@bloodline
Must have been a cool feeling. They should never sell those cards without a CPU fan anyway, at least the 040/40mzh ones.

I'm gonna leave the trapdoor open and buy a 128mb SIMM for the SCSI kit. I'll also test it on the 1240 to see if there is any performance difference.

Thnks for replies.

@Brian
Ok cool.  I allways think it's a shame to lose a silent Amiga by puting fans on it. If I get a 1260 I hope to run it silently.
