80Mhz crystal and 040@40mhz in an A3640...
« on: December 15, 2004, 01:58:22 AM »
Hi. Hi have an 80mhz crystal lying around and also an 040 wich runs at 40mhz native speed. I also have an A3640 board wich is running an 040 at 25mhz.

My question is simple, do you think I risk ruinning the board if I try an 80mhz crystal, is it prepared for it?
I won't have any problems trying the 040@40mhz as the current 040@25mhz in the board is socketed:-)
By the way, do you think the value of such a modified board is worth the risk?

"If you are brave enough to try it out you'll have to make a small modification to the A3640; Look for "Dave's Amiga overclocking page".

I wouldn't mind risking the card a bit, but since it also provides the system clock to the A3/4K motherboard I don't know if I want to risk the A4000 itself. At the moment I'm waiting for a CyberstormPPC233 060@66 to arrive at any minute you know  :-D

@Crusher
Currently it's not an OC, I got no cooler in it. Running the A4000's mobo through an 80mhz crystal with this card wouldn't probably be a good idea though..
