DENEB - USB DVD-ROM & Flash Drive
« on: May 04, 2013, 06:39:49 AM »
Ok, I'm having a difficult time on a reinstall in getting the system to recognize my UDB DVD-ROM and Flash Drive.  Can someone tell me what I need to do for these to auto-mount at start?  I've been searching and doing tons of trial & error for hours now and frankly I'm tired :)

This is an Amiga 3000, 16MB Fast, and 2MB Chip.  I had this working about 2 years ago then it went into storage and now I'm reinstalling and all Trident sees is my HUB and NetGear 10/100 dongle.  I cannot remember what I did 2 years ago to make it work... LOL

Thanks!

Both drives are already on a self-powered hub.  I'll look into the other suggestions and see what I come up with.

Ok I'm pretty irritated now.  This all appears to be due to a bad port on the DENEB as I started switching cables around and finally the flash and the CD-ROM drive are being recognized.

I really don't understand here.  I've touched hundreds of hard drives and expansion boards and not once has anything happened to them.  But the DENEB well I have no explanation why the one port (closest to the outside of the card) appears to be dead.

Well, this has been fun - it's brought me back to the good ole days however I think it might be time to call it quits.  Contemplating putting this on ebay now... keep your eyes peeled.

Drop Michael Böhmer a line - he might be able to help if there is a hardware issue.

I didn't think that it would be worth it but I just noticed on the support page that there is a 2 year warranty... and I got this (have receipt) from AmigaKit on 5/20/2011!  Maybe there is hope.  I'll see if there is a way to contact him but I haven't been able to find a link on the page yet.

Found the address.  Just did a clean install and confirmed that it's port 1 that appears to be dead.

Unfortunately without a SCSI HD I'm limited to booting to floppy and making a RAD based environment right now... was hoping to be able to install to the flash stick at some point but I'm unsure how to get the geometry of it.

Oh, and the powered hub I had was *ALSO* dead.  It has a power light that was lighting up but every port was dead.  I hooked it to my laptop and confirmed... cable good but hub actually dead.  Another part of my problem.

I have another port but cannot figure out where the power supply is...

I do appreciate the input, but I can't even get to that step.  I got as far as reading the geometry and realizing that it was jut a display issue... it is correctly sating it's got 2 partition of 1.9Gb each, but when I try to run a format - full or quick - the system freezes cold.

So with a blown port on the DENEB and a freezing machine every time I try to format the flash stick, or freezing sometimes when I reboot, or other times just seemingly at random, I'm really at the end of my rope.

I really don't want to give up but the fact of the matter is it's sucking the life out of me... and I just sit here letting it happen so I need to know when to say when. :(

At this point, since I have no SCSI drive I'm in a pinch.  My brainiac idea was to set the DENEB to rescue mode, boot from floppy, install a large RAD (8 - 10MB), install 3.1 and rhe DENEB core, format the flash stick, install OS there, and start using it to boot from.

so since I'm in rescue mode, I'm already in Z2 mode.  I got as far as 2 partitions on the flash drive, but wen I try to format it, the machine simply freezes.

I'm unsure if the freezing is from the DENEB port being dead, some other issue on the board, rescue mode, or if it's something else on the A3K.

I'm pretty sure I already updated the board to V11 back when I originally got it.  I don't recall how to test for that though and I've since boxed everything up.

I'm in contact with Michael Boehmer about potentially sending it in to have it looked at, depending on cost of course.

Yeah it's just the one port... it recognizes on port 2 and the internal port, but not on port 1.  With the lockups and inability to format a flash drive though I'm dead in the water unless I fork out for a SCSI drive on ebay.

It's a rev 6.1 motherboard I forget what the daughterboard revision is... it was all working a few years ago then I put it away for a bit.  I probably shouldn't have done that :(

I have the card in RESCUE MODE so it's running in ZII... I need to get a SCSI HD so I can install the OS and see if I get instability w/o the DENEB before I move forward.

I corresponded on fixing it and it looks like it's going to cost close to 100 USD all in... probably worth it in the end but still not sure...

That's cool - thanks for the thought :)

Trying to find one  on ebay that is relatively cheap right now.
