True, but some may not be interested in development. For any who would get preprogrammed PIC's they'd have to know they're stuck with what they have. To get further updates, they'd have to get/learn to use a programmer or hassle with more costs and shipping to get future updates.

Not really, if you are getting the chip Pre-Programmed, then get a bootloader stuck on the chip.  No need for "Reflashing" with a prommer.  All you do, is catch the Boot Loader's Listen window (usually the first 1 second after power on), and upload new firmware. (For Pic's that support *SELF* programming).  That is what Wizard66 offers with his Pic's, Bootloader or Firmware.  ANY sane person would go for Bootloader.

Bootloader and firmware won't interfere with eachother?
Or eat up memory that is needed for other stuff..?

Why would they, The PROM has 32K of storage, The Firmware is about 13K and the Loader is...... 100 Words (Bytes ?) long.

Everything it needs is on the Prom.  The Firmware or Bootloader takes *NO* system resources from the Amiga Chipset.

The Firmware's ONLY job, is to flash the FPGA at power up, and to control the MMC.

More I/O's means more pins, and the pinout will be different
