What use is a bare board?

Those people who wish to Source the parts, and solder themselves.  But usually, those who can source the parts, and Solder SMC components, *USUALLY* know how to source their own boards too.

Great for the 0.1% of people out there!  For the rest of us a bare PCB is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike!  As for paying 100 pound for a fully assembled board, a cheap A500 will do nicely!

A cheap A500, where the components are getting toward the end of their life.

If you had to make a totally new A500, using TODAYS off the shelf components, it sure would be costing more than the minimig. (And it would not be 12cm x 12cm).  A500 does not have an inbuilt Scan doubler, Minimig does.

Half of the cost of the minimig, is low numbers of part orders, means higher cost, and given how Xenepp got stiffed by "Interested Customers", I am glad I am not doing a Full production run.

Agreed - bare boards are useless to most of us. But a complete Minimig is worth £100 easy!

*Use of standard ps2 keyboard & mouse rather than expensive amiga parts.
*Loading games from adf (on the mmc) rather than unreliable floppies - most have mine have degraded from 1992!
*Make my own case for it - or a different one each season!
*Upgrade the base code when hard file support is implemented.
*Boot AROS on it.

Plus a few more that i can't think of right now. Plus its the first new Classic Amiga compatible hardware for years - and its open source!

Alrighty.  I have been crunching some numbers.

Given the ROHS compliant FPGA's are out of stock, I have managed to find 3 (YES THREE) Lead based in stock.

Now These are cheaper (by US$6).  I can order these right away, and when the boards arrive, get them made up.

5 boards being made. 3 *COULD* be made up pre-assembled.

Rough pricing is 90 GBP, US$190, AU$210.

I am waiting on word from one person, as to whether they are going to proceed, if they are, Then thats them all gone. (Two for them, one for me).

Now, why is that *SO* expensive ?, mostly because what is being purchased, is once off prices, Bulk Discounts do not kick in until at least 25 units.

On those prices above, add P&P, and Paypal Wants a cut for those paying via that method, as i am in Australia, they want a 4.4% fee for "Foreign currency" credit card transaction, or 3.4% in my local currency (On credit card payments).

I assume Paypal funds, to Paypal is Free.

Now, why minimig ?, as previously mentioned..., PS2 mice, PS2 Keyboards, USB mouse/Keyboard can be used via adapter, just dont Hotswap. BUILT IN 31Khz/50Hz Video (Scandoubler), FPGA is just a simple upgrade when core is updated.
