Re: browsers doesn't MOS have that KHTML based Sputnik thingy? From all the hype it sounded like that's supposed to be a proper modern browser.
Though I'm dubious of all the support Sputnik is getting among the AROS community; from reading their boards at aros-exec.org it sounds like there's a lot of support for paying the dev to port it even though he'd keep the code locked up tight. This is something I really don't like the idea of, especially on an open source OS like AROS; they should put the money the Sputnik guy would charge into the KHTML bounty and get it done under the APL.
AROS is the last, best hope for Amiga (had to slip in a B5 ref) but the devs don't seem to realise that: they refuse to give any sort of 'roadmap' or any indication of how far along they are to what they consider a useable first release that whole 'no schedule and rocking' thing sounds nice, but it basically means they don't want to promise anything in case they can't deliver it on time (given how late most things in the Amiga world are I don't think they have much to worry about). I read a thread over at aros-exec the other day (called 'roadmap... again') where one dev suggested they 'slap a 1.0 on it and get back to work' or words to that effect - they don't really seem to want AROS to ever be finished - it's like a toy to them; even the name suggests this - Amiga Research Operating System.
Obviously some devs there have a different attitude and are doing great work - things like DOS packets, the drag'n'drop thing being fixed, not to mention Dr. Schulz taking on the USB stack AND the x64 port together while doing his phd (these are just the 'high profile' things I can remember right now) and this activity gives me some hope for AROS - they might yet be able to slap a 1.0 on it that actually means something and isn't just a way to distract the detractors.
