Ok, hopefully not too stupid a question here but...what exactly is AROS and how does it work?

Do I need a computer with nothing on it or a computer running Windows or Linux with AROS running on it?
What type of hardware do I need to run AROS well and what, if any, other software do I need?

Can I run my Amiga software on it that I already have?  Will any games run on it?  Is it the AmigaOS?

Sorry for all the questions but after reading the AROS page I've got more questions about it and I'm very interested.
