I used a 286 bridgeboard years ago and despiting what the docs state I got 300KB/s. It works great on both A4000 and A2000.
Just remember to download realtek msdos utility to configure which IRQ/memory zone does the network card use so you won't become crazy trying out different configs like our friend Chain ;-)
The packet drivers are simply the msdos drivers.
Using IDE drives to keep hardfiles also helps in some configs but it's possible to have the hardfiles in scsi drives with the right tweaking.
