I have the same issue of having old Plug'N Go ROMs (Version 2.5) in my Fusion Forty. I also have the GVP Series II HC with 0MB RAM so I am probably going to have the same problems that you had. What revison of code was in your EPROM on your GVP Series II HC ?  
 
I did check this link out for some Fusion Forty software updates including a request for updated EPROMS:

A couple of days ago, I also sent Mattias a similar request for the updated Fusion Forty Plug'n Go EPROM image files. I still have not heard back from him.
