A1200 works with Dell SR2320L w/o FF/SD!
« on: August 21, 2011, 03:45:53 PM »
Hey guys, thought you might like to know this.

Last night, I decided to hookup my Dell SR2320L monitor to my A1200. I knew it wasn't going to work....until this happened! (pardon the mess!)
The A1200 is pretty much stock. The only exception is a GVP 1230+, 030, with MMU and 8 MB ram.

Here is a shot with the A1200 w/C= monitor adapter and monitor.

Cannon Fodder Screen 1

Cannon Fodder Screen II

I am flabbergasted that this monitor syncs. Now, I haven't run through all the modes. I did try the higher 72 modes and the 2320 doesn't like those. It you stick with the 50 and 60 Hz ranges it works fine. The "Super" modes work, bu they don't look that great.

This A1200 is stock, except the GVP 1230+. There is NO scandoubler!

Yes I will report back all the modes here in this thread.

Here are some PAL Mode pics.I booted up the A1200 in PAL mode (pressing both mouse button at boot and selecting PAL) If you want pics of games, I can post some as well, granted my games collection is rather sparse!

Workbench - PAL

SysInfo - Reports as DBLPAL

I have a Dell U2311H with an IPS panel.
...but I don't have the silver adapter!
How can I know if it would work?

@hbarcellos
I don't know. My C= adapter is the -01 version of the adapter, not the later -03 which had some corrections for Video Toaster use.

To be honest, this was a shot in the dark to see of this monitor would work with my A1200. To my speechless surprise, it did. I did no research to see if it would work, I merely plugged it in to the computer and turned it on.

Exactly!

I know $200 is a lot for a monitor. This monitor is used on my everyday computer (Mac Mini). I got this cause an Apple monitor price is rediculus and this one looked great in the store.

I did this on a whim, you too might get lucky with the LCD you already own.

I doubt many people are going to spend $200+ dollars on a monitor for this reason.
I think the "moral to the story" is to try it out...

It might work with the monitor you have..
Obviously, as has been pointed out, if you want to spend money for a solution, you're going to look for something like an Indivision..

But if you have an LCD around the house, try it (if you have the adapter..).

Also, as it's looking like there are more and more of these, it might be nice for someone to try to keep a list (thread?) of monitors and varying degrees of success/failure with them, so people could refer to it...

I happen to really like my 1084's (I know), but I also realize that at some time, they will stop working...  ;-(
So I might pick up a VGA adapter to have on hand, just in case...

Great thread. I wonder how this Dell monitor is for HDTV? This was i can replace the tv in my bedroom with this one, hooked to the Sat cable box via HDMI and watch tv on that and hook up an amiga :)

I really can't say as far as TV goes, but with the HDMI input, I have used my Mac Mini and my XBOX360 with the HDMI and it looks great on this and the 2420 monitors.
