Blizzard 1230-IV and Delfina conflict?
« on: June 16, 2009, 08:05:55 PM »
Hi,

Just splashed out on a new delphina sound card for my amiga 1200.  Arrived today but I'm having some problems with it.

I'm using it on the internal clockport.  Followed the instructions carefully to make sure I had the cable around the right way etc.

The problem is, when my blizzard accelerator is active the machine won't boot - I get a yellow screen then a reset.  If I disable the card by holding down "2" on power on, the machine boots ok - but obviously seriously crippled with only internal cpu and mem to use.  It's not a power issue as I have an atx power supply and power adapter lead powering the 1200 - and besides it works with the blizzard installed just "disabled"...?

After hacking around my install of 3.9 loads to free up as much memory as possible, I finally managed to get deliplayer outputting via ahi to the delphina and it works, so long as I have a really low mixing speed - i.e. basically unusable.

Without the delphina the machine boots fine with the blizzard.

I've tried disabling the rom remap option, taken off the scsi add on and it still produces a yellow screen.

Anybody else heard of this problem before?  If I can't sort it I'm probably sending the delphina back... :(

My setup, for info :-

A1200, 1D.1 board
Blizzard 1230-50 mkIV, with FPU and 8MB installed.  Scsi adapter with 128MB installed.
Indivision internal flicker fixer
Ide-Express+ 4 way ide adapter and high speed add on.
Kickstart 3.1 chips installed.
2.5inch to Compact Flash adapter with 8GB card.

Yep, I had exactly same problem.
There is two capacitors backside of Delfina that has to be removed for Blizzard 030 and 060 accelerators.

Get delfina library from this page for better mp3 support ;)

Wow - thats exactly what appears to have been done on mine.  I didn't notice them there before I sent it off, but when it came back I noticed it looked a bit "damaged" around that area.  Looks like its just whats left after the resistors are removed.

I didn't see the library download on jens site - do these news pages like to be hidden away or something?  I'll download it and give it a try and see if it stops the lockups I keep on getting when playing mp3's, especially shoutcasts through amplifier.  Most I've lasted before a crash is 30 mins.. :S

edit:  and how did I miss that thread?  I did loads of searches and came up blank, yet there is that thread from 2006 showing the exact problem I was having!

Well, installed new library (417b1) and after listening to a shoutcast channel for a mere 3 mins the sound "stuck" again and the machine locked up.  :( Its only a 128kbps max stream as well.

I'll see how it goes but things are definately unstable - was thinking it was hardware but now not so sure.

Slight update - who needs sleep?  :D

I realised I had reinstated my blizkick line after removing the delfina the last time.  So, I commented that out and put the standard setpatch line back in (i.e. no NOROMUPDATE option as needed for the blizkick)......

.....and so far so good.  Just beaten my last record and been listening for almost 40 mins now.  I did notice that with the blizkick line in place it only took 3 mins or before crashing, but the sound started breaking up/corrupting a little before (rather than the usual "stuck" delfina symptoms) so probably a blizkick module interfereing there.

All I need now is a util to reset the card when needed (like the reset option the driver uses when it thinks its crashed and pops up the requester) and that should be enough for me.

Its back to a stuttering mess again this evening - even when playing mp3's from ram disk.  Tried through amplifier then delfmpeg command line... same thing.

Done my nut in now so its going back.
