The whole story went like this & it is cut well short leaving Japan out of the tale! I also omit names where I think fit.
I ended up swapping an Immaculate WarpEngine & Z3 Fastlane with 4Mb for a CSMKIII 040 @ 40Mhz. It arrived, I plugged it in & it was dead! Caps Lock key froze after several presses meaning the CPU wasn't responding. Powered off, pressed on the CPU fan & held the pressure whilst powering on. It Fired up to the 3.1 ROM screen no problems. Let the pressure off the CPU & the Insert Floppy animation froze & the classic Floppy Drive click ceased too!
Classic example of broken solder joints on this ageing BGA Technology.
Thankfully, I hadn't sent my stuff to the sender of the CSMKIII & contacted him explaining the situation. The result was I keep the Z3, he'd pay half the shipping costs & Socket repair & I'd ship him the WarpEngine to square up.
Tbah, I could have done the Socket re-work myself but just didn't have the tools to hand. I also recently acquired some glasses & am finding it difficult to adapt! (An even Older KuNt0r now) :-o
It was just a safer option all round to let a professional work out over this one!
As a bonus, the card is now a full 060 running @ 68.5Mhz & I managed to pick up another V8.5 Z3 ROM along with a set of New Caps for a Rev 3.2 A3640, now my only spare A4K processor board!
Anyone else in dire need of Socket repair at a reasonable price, Anthony Hoffman is your man. He does also provide other services & is only an Email away.
A.H. R0X0rZI'm absolutely tickled! :-D :-D :-D
