FOUND: CSMKIII
« on: October 04, 2008, 03:26:14 PM »
Long shot over everyone's Bow;

Anyone got a CSMKIII they want to Sell, Swap or Part-exchange for hardware?

Must be in full working order & fitted with 060 & 128Mb ram.
Might consider an 040 version of this card if the price is right.

I'm willing to pay a fair price for this card.

Please post here stating a PM is sent & offer your price including shipping to Sunny Cornwall, here in the UK.
Shipping must be fully insured with a Signature Required for delivery.

Cheers & all the best folks!  :-)

I cant say too much now, but trust me. As things evolve & finally conclude, I'll spill the beans!  :-D

Meantime, I'm doing JD & Coke by the gallon, hoping it all turns up rosey!

Bookmark this. It's quite a story in some ways, but all for the love of "Amiga".  :-)

If anyone has a CSMKIII they are either using it. Or more likely it's broken and they are musing over paying JJB €150 to fix it.

Anthony Hoffman charges a lot lot less for repairs.

@ bigmac

I had a WE until about 2 weeks ago!

The whole story went like this & it is cut well short leaving Japan out of the tale! I also omit names where I think fit.

I ended up swapping an Immaculate WarpEngine & Z3 Fastlane with 4Mb for a CSMKIII 040 @ 40Mhz. It arrived, I plugged it in & it was dead! Caps Lock key froze after several presses meaning the CPU wasn't responding. Powered off, pressed on the CPU fan & held the pressure whilst powering on. It Fired up to the 3.1 ROM screen no problems. Let the pressure off the CPU & the Insert Floppy animation froze & the classic Floppy Drive click ceased too!
Classic example of broken solder joints on this ageing BGA Technology.
Thankfully, I hadn't sent my stuff to the sender of the CSMKIII & contacted him explaining the situation. The result was I keep the Z3, he'd pay half the shipping costs & Socket repair & I'd ship him the WarpEngine to square up.

Tbah, I could have done the Socket re-work myself but just didn't have the tools to hand. I also recently acquired some glasses & am finding it difficult to adapt! (An even Older KuNt0r now) :-o
It was just a safer option all round to let a professional work out over this one!

As a bonus, the card is now a full 060 running @ 68.5Mhz & I managed to pick up another V8.5  Z3 ROM along with a set of New Caps for a Rev 3.2 A3640, now my only spare A4K processor board!

Anyone else in dire need of Socket repair at a reasonable price, Anthony Hoffman is your man. He does also provide other services & is only an Email away.

I'm absolutely tickled!  :-D  :-D  :-D

What about the 68.5Mhz ? Does the SCSI work at that speed ? any flakiness ?

No. The SCSI & RAM use the Middle Crystal on the Card & that is Stock @ 50Mhz, but runs @ 25Mhz afaik

@ Tahoe

If you click linky Poo above, there is no sawing off here. Just a re-constructed socket from row after row of single strip 2.54mm Socket Pins! :-)

*edit* Dunno how the double post happened?? :-?
