And I can see issues with burn in so may not be the best choice in the long run.

Trust me burn in is still an issue even with the newest ones. I have a 50" Panasonic HDTV that's Plasma and it's the last model that Panasonic made before stopping production last year and it has some burn in from a TV station identification logo.
